Monza: iPad-Native POS and Kitchen Display System for Horecas
Client
MONZA is a pre-seed startup building a modern, iPad-native POS system for independent hospitality businesses that want simplicity without sacrificing capability, paired with a smart AI layer.
Problem
As a small, pre-seed team, Monza didn't have a dedicated UI/UX designer to refine their product's visual design and experience. Their core POS was already operational for sales and payments, but the backoffice tools operators relied on daily, along with the kitchen-facing side of the workflow, still needed design that matched the same standard of simplicity as checkout.
Process
As Monza's design partner over what grew into a year-long collaboration, I worked directly with the founders on backoffice and POS flows (shift handling, employee management, flexible payment and discount options) and designed the Kitchen Display System from scratch. Throughout, I ran a structured testing practice alongside the design work. Self-audits tracked over three months, external usability sessions with twelve testers ranging from first-time users to active cashiers, and competitive benchmarking against nine POS apps on the market, all feeding directly back into revisions.
Outcome
From a Single Project to a Year-Long Design Partnership
What began as a single deliverable grew into an ongoing collaboration as Monza continued building its product with the same design partner from day one.
